OAS and Twitter publish literacy and digital security guide

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Twitter reported on the publication of the guide “Literacy and Digital Security: The Importance of Staying Safe and Informed.”

The document that is now in its second edition contains information related to security on Twitter; as well as recommendations to prevent cyber attacks.

The document that is in its second edition seeks to inform users about the appearance of new cyber threats, product updates and Twitter rules, among other useful tools when sharing information.

In a press release, the OAS stated that the guide also “expands the information relevant to digital literacy and its importance for the maintenance of democracy, the fight against disinformation, and good practices in terms of digital self-care and consumption measures. information on Twitter ”.

In relation to the subject, the Vice President of Public Policy, Government and Philanthropy of Twitter for the Americas, Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, explained that “digital literacy entails a continuous learning process” since it allows “to critically analyze the information we consume online and share it responsibly ”.

According to its creators, the guide also addresses Twitter security tips for journalists, practical steps to prevent cyber attacks, information and recommendations to verify information.

“This publication seeks to offer adequate digital security tools so that the citizens of the Americas can stay protected against them,” said Alison August Treppel, Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE).
